Sandy Bay

Directions

Follow signs from Exmouth to Sandy Bay Holiday Park and drive in through the main entrance. Park with consideration and do not walk through caravan gardens. Take-off is just East of the rifle range, as shown on the map.

Guidelines

Closed on Bank Holiday weekends. Never overfly the Holiday Park or attempt to land there. In winter months staff lock gates at around 4pm-make sure your car is on the right side! Do not take off in front of "Cedars" or "Westdown View" caravans.

Bottom Landing

On the beach. Land away from holidaymakers. The walk up is steep and extremely unpleasant in wet conditions.

PG Side-Slope Landing

None

Top Landing

The field East of takeoff. The landing can be very rough particularly when wind is off to the south. Approach with speed and land well back. PGs can land at takeoff. Work out your approach carefully and avoid the rotor. Pilots are regularly dumped here.

XC Potential

Coastal ridge runs to Budleigh Salterton.

Hazards

DO NOT OVERFLY RIFLE RANGE ON STRAIGHT POINT WHEN RED FLAGS FLYING (right of take-off). Beach may be full of nude holidaymakers and can be distracting, but you still must avoid them when landing!
