Site Guide
East Hill
Directions
Leave Honiton on the A375 toward Sidmouth. 2.2 miles later, immediately
before "Hare & Hounds" pub, turn right on B 3174 toward Ottery St Mary.
Just
before road goes down steep hill in woods, turn left and drive to the end of
the
straight road (approx 3 miles), and you will come to a T junction, with a
wooded
car park in front of you. Park in the car park and the take off is the grass
area just over the hedge.

Guidelines
HG & PG - Easy takeoff but PG's need to be aware of the close proximity
of the trees behind TO when popping the canopy up. PGs also need to be aware of
the danger of being blown back behind the trees in strong conditions. Site can
be turbulent if thermic.
Bottom Landings
HG & PG - B/L1. It is the large field directly in front of takeoff. The
field slopes away so HG pilots should view the field before taking off. If there are sheep there, land away from them and take care. Because of lambing, we may not land there from Nov-Feb, unless it is empty.
PG - B/L2 Pilots should view it before flying. It is the field directly in
front of the old takeoff, with four poly tunnels in the RH far corner (the 2nd
out from the tree line). Beware of rotor from the large trees bordering the
field & power lines along the far & right hedges. Walk up the lane and
track to the right of the field back up to the old takeoff. Do not land to the
right of the lane on the right of B/L .The farmer charges £15 for every landing
there.
Top Landing (This has not been re-negotiated with the new owners)
Fly right (North) of takeoff. The L-shaped field is behind the trees. Land as
far back as possible to avoid rotor from tree line. To retrieve, left from the
car park, take first right and field is on left before bend.
XC Potential
Excellent. Several very long flights have been made from this site.
Hazards
Takeoff can be very rough. BE WARNED! Experienced pilots who know the site well
have come to grief on takeoff. The air can vary from bumpy to very rough
(thermic). You are advised not to approach top landing with less than 400ft if
possible, due to rotor from tree line. Low level military flying. Aircraft
practising ILS approaches to Exeter airport-They are often south of the
approach! The approach to EXETER AIRPORT is to the right (North) of takeoff.
Never fly past the B3174, which is obscured by trees.
