Codden Hill

Directions

Site is near Barnstaple. Drive south from Barnstaple on A377. Turn left opposite filling station. Follow the road up to a gravel track on the left & drive up the track. DO NOT take vehicles beyond the cattle grid. Launch area 150 yds West of monument, where fence on right of track ends.

Guidelines

HG-Easy takeoff and landing, but can be very turbulent if thermic.

PG-as HG. When Top landing do not go too far back as the hill drops away on the other side. Sea breeze will turn wind to the west. Best be in the air by 12:00 o'clock.

Bottom Landing

Below monument, to right of road. Big field, sloping away. HG pilots should inspect before flying. To retrieve, drive round to front of hill to field by road to quarry.

PG Side-Slope Landing

Easy.

Top Landing

At takeoff or in field behind UNLESS IT IS IN CROP. Do not damage fence lifting gliders over.

XC Potential

Good -100 k's possible Hazards Continental thermals - if you don't like it rough, go somewhere else. Cannot be flown while blasting is in progress in the quarry opposite take-off.
